One of the most picturesque and at the same time less frequented routes in the Pieniny Mountains.Running along the Polish-Slovak border, the trail leads through scenic hills and clearings. At the end, we will also have to climb Wysoka, which is the highest peak of the entire Pieniny Mountains, and the panoramas from it are among the most beautiful in this range. You can make the trip easier and shorter by using the PKL Palenica chairlift.
Trail color: yellow - blue
Walking time: 6 h 35 min
Highest point: Wysoka 1050 m above sea level
After a few moments, the trail enters the Palenica slope and the actual, steep ascent to the peak begins on the side of the Palenica ski slope (50 min).At the top there is the upper station of the PKL Palenica chairlift. The views from Palenica are very nice, there are also many tourist attractions there. In winter, ski slopes operate here.Following the yellow signs, we reach the peak of Szafranówka (15 min).
At Szafranówka we change the trail color to blue and head east.Initially, we hike along a ridge in the forest, but the trail quickly changes its character and we can continue to enjoy beautiful views almost along the entire length of the trail. On the way, we pass more hills and a shepherd's hut where you can buy cheese made on site.Although practically the entire route is full of views, some peaks deserve special attention in this respect - this is Wysoki Wierch with a phenomenal view of Trzy Korony, Pieniny, but also the Tatra Mountains. The next section between Wysoki Wierch is the most beautiful on the entire route, thanks to the views on both sides of the path - on one side we are accompanied by the Tatra Mountains, on the other the gentle surrounding hills and valleys.
The Mountain Educational Center "Pod Durbaszką" is located near Durbaszka. In the last stage, we enter a sometimes forested section, which leads us steeply to the highest peak of the Pieniny Mountains, Wysoka (3 h 45 min).Return to the center of Szczawnica by the same route (2 h 50 min). There are several possibilities to shorten the return route and go down into the valley, but each time the trip will end in a different town and you will have to take a bus to Szczawnica. From the top of Wysoka you can go down to Jaworki along the green trail (1 h 05 min). From Durbaszka you can go down the unmarked path next to the "Pod Durbaszką" center (approx. 45 min). From the area of Mount Cyrhle you can also go down the yellow trail to Szlachtowa (35 min).
